UPDATE: In light of COVID-19, the comment period for Ag Order 4.0 has been extended until June 20, 2020.
The public review period is currently open for California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Coast Region’s (Central Coast Water Board) Draft Agricultural Order for Discharges to Irrigated Lands (Ag Order 4.0) and accompanying Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
The public review period is from Feb. 21‒June 20, 2020. During this time, Central Coast Water Board staff will also hold public workshops in Watsonville, Santa Maria and Salinas.
As currently drafted, Ag Order 4.0 will regulate both the landowners and operators of commercial irrigated lands within the Central Coast Region. This includes, but is not limited to, land planted with row crops, tree crops or vineyards.
Ag Order 4.0 outlines the requirements that regulate the discharge of agricultural waste from irrigated lands within the Central Coast region. It would replace Ag Order 3.0 that currently regulates agricultural discharges.
The Draft EIR evaluates the possible environmental effects of implementing Ag Order 4.0 and was prepared to comply with CEQA.
Electronic copies of Draft Ag Order 4.0 and Draft EIR can be accessed by visiting the Central Coast Water Board’s website (link). Written comments can be submitted to: AgNOI@waterboards.ca.gov with “Comments on Draft Ag Order 4.0” or “Comments on Draft EIR” in the subject line. Submit comments by June 20, 2020.
